Life, liberty, and the pursuit of good health

Today, I thought we’d complement this 4th of July week by talking about your freedom to make choices about your health.

Of course, the idea of protecting “choice” should apply to all aspects of your life…especially your health. And yet, this most basic kind of freedom is more endangered than ever.

In fact, in 2019, big government and the crony, corporatist mainstream medical industry is trying insufferably to control:

  • The kind of medical care you and your children can get
  • The kind of health insurance you must carry (and the kind you can’t get anymore!)
  • Your right to get care once you reach a certain age

Nanny states are even ratcheting ever downward on how much you can drink before getting behind the wheel—without any science to back up their stance. Some sanctimonious medical groups are even pushing for complete prohibition of alcohol, against all the evidence.

In addition, the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) is trying to put the cigar industry out of business. Again, without any real scientific evidence.

And another issue threatening our most basic health care rights is organ donation. In fact, I just saw that another nanny state government wants to make organ donation mandatory, without any consent or say by the donor. It’s shocking to read about all the ongoing abuses perpetrated by the organ donation and transplant industry. And they resist all efforts to be monitored or regulated.

The science is there, if you know where to look

I work diligently to uncover the truth behind these issues in my Insiders’ Cures monthly newsletter and right here in my Daily Dispatch. I also focus on bringing you cutting-edge science from the front lines about nutritional and natural approaches to prevent and reverse some of our most prevalent conditions, like Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, cancer, chronic inflammation, diabetes, heart disease, lung diseases, and prostate conditions. These natural approaches can even help you stay healthy well into old age.

(In fact, I have an entire protocol devoted to this goal, called The Insider’s Ultimate Guide to Outsmarting “Old Age.” This unique online learning tool is filled with simple, common-sense strategies for staying vibrant, youthful, and healthy well into your 70s, 80s—and beyond. But as the science of natural medicine advances, the mainstream has doubled down on its efforts to spread propaganda against these approaches. Plus, the FDA and its sister agency the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) puts so many restrictions in place to limit reporting about natural approaches.

In fairness, I worked with the FTC as an expert consultant during the 1990s. And a few administrators working there did seek the truth. They also tried to work within the rules to target their efforts in ways that helped the consumer.

Likewise, during the early 2000s, former U.S. Surgeon General C. Everett Koop and I worked with officials at the FDA to find better ways to get high-quality dietary supplements approved and onto the market.

I even devoted a lengthy article to discussing simple ways you can ensure that your supplements are top-notch in the April 2015 issue of Insiders’ Cures (“The Great Supplement Scandal continues: Are you getting what you pay for?”). Subscribers have access to this story and all of my archives. So, if you haven’t already, consider signing up today!

Because, unfortunately, the low-quality, lower-cost supplements still dominate the marketplace. In fact, I find the marketplace rewards low-cost, low-quality, mass-produced dietary supplements, which contain all the wrong ingredients at all the wrong doses and aren’t backed by strong science.

I see plenty of this garbage promoted every year at the national Natural Products Expo West in Anaheim, California. Most of these products would fit better next door at Disneyland—as they’re full of over-hyped ingredients that are only effective in some kind of “fantasy land.” (Likewise, the annual expo for supplement ingredient suppliers is held every year in Las Vegas, Nevada. Again, a more fitting location for this crapshoot couldn’t be found.)

Well, as Thomas Jefferson said, “Eternal vigilance is the price of freedom.” And this keen observation certainly now applies to our health and well-being.

So, this holiday weekend, as we continue celebrating our independence from Great Britain 243 years ago, please spend some time thinking about life, liberty, and the pursuit of good health in America.

Ask questions and demand answers. From your government. From your doctor. And from your insurance company. Your health and your freedom depend on it!
